ACRYLIC PAINT ON CANVAS

In collaboration with the People's Poetry Festival in Calgary, eight artists and eight poets teamed together to make a work of art. My role was to paint a piece based off of the poem by the talented Belle Auld, which is showcased below.

Reading poetry at night 
on the deck 
in the cool 
with the cat 
drinking beer 
In love with misplaced modifiers 
and my mother’s pen 
- dead 15 years now 
held together with duct tape 
not able to count how many refills this is 
- the ink not the beer 
In the time of Covid 
day 143 since the world shut down 
my first pandemic 
thinking run on sentences and 
where a comma should go 
and of life ending 
either by pandemic 
or climate change 
crisis either way 
so who cares 
I’m not supposed to drink beer 
certainly not the cat 
in the cool 
of the deck 
that is beginning to look drunk
