The final horse
STEP 1 - Turning a 3D model 2D
When I was sent the renderings by our 3D department, I was assigned with an enormous task; to break down the 3D model into 2D layers for the print team.
The 3D renderings
In order to do this, I broke the 3D model into individual layers and separated them into an illustrator file. This was a very time consuming process, and a few adjustments had to be made to the horse's front hoof. Through rigorous verification and adjustments, I maintained the shape of the horse and ensured the sculpture was polished.

STEP 2 - Preparing the layers for print
Once the layers were broken down, I prepared the files for print. The body of the horse had to be separated onto 48" x 96" wood boards.
A page from the print proof. This document outlined the texture and pattern on each piece.
Printing the textures on wood panel
When the patterns had been printed, the boards were hauled over to the CNC machine for cutting. To help with this process, I created a CNC guide on illustrator for the machine to follow.

With everything printed and cut, the pieces were then handed off to the fabrication for assembly.
